Adoption

There must be school, youth organization or group of students that choose to adopt your child as their sparrow. We cannot force this process upon kids and schools. Sometimes we have more sparrows on our adoption list in a community than clubs and sponsors to adopt them. Therefore, with the collaborative efforts of several social workers, we have established a set of prioritized criteria for adopting-out our sparrows.

  • Proximity or closeness of relationship to a club: If there is a qualified Sparrow within the school attendance boundaries of a Sparrow Club, or who is already known and identified by the school or group as the child they want to adopt, that child will always be the priority for adoption for that particular club - regardless of the fact that other sparrows may have been waiting or have greater or more urgent needs in that community.
  • Age appropriateness: We try our hardest to match schools with a Sparrow that is equal of age or younger than the adopting school club or group. For example, we will not try to adopt a 17-year-old senior who is a Sparrow to a middle or elementary school. In this case waiting for a high school or college age club would be the most appropriate adoption.
  • Urgency of medical need: If there are specific and urgent medical needs such as surgeries, equipment or therapy that will greatly improve the immediate chances for survival or relief of a Sparrow, then that child will be adopted next.
  • Prognosis: If and when we are told by a family, doctor or social worker that a sparrow child is believed to have a terminal condition prior to adoption, we will disclose this information to the clubs before adopting that child. We will only adopt these children to schools or groups that are most willing and able to handle the emotional toll that the situation could bring.

If you live in a region where Sparrow Clubs is new or unknown, we ask our Sparrow families to introduce us to your local schools and businesses. Once the introduction is made, those administrators or teachers who are interested can contact us directly to launch a club to help your Sparrow. You have permission to print or use all or any part of our website information as long as it is used to promote the organization or a specific sparrow project.
