Along with the adoption of your child by a school or group, the issue of sponsorship must also be determined. Sparrow Club sponsors are local businesses, organizations or individuals that pledge or donate ‘seed money’ prior to the start of a sparrow project to fund the adoption costs of the sparrow to the club.
A sponsor covers all or part of the benefits and costs of one Sparrow Club adoption for one school year. In regions where there is a local Sparrow Clubs office, our staff builds a growing list of enthusiastic business sponsors and matches them up with clubs and new sparrows each year.
In regions where we do not have a local office or staff presence, it is more difficult for us to secure sponsors for our clubs and projects. In that case, a sparrow club can still adopt a child and do a sparrow project as self-sponsored (ie: without a financial commitment by a business prior to the start of a sparrow project). The self-sponsored club seeks their own pledges to support their community service vouchers along with doing other fundraising efforts. Several clubs have done successful self-sponsored projects, but it does add greater challenges for the students and often reduces the charitable and educational benefits of the project.
