If your child has been adopted as a “Sparrow” by a Sparrow Club, please know that it is our honor to serve your family. Your willingness to allow your child to be part of a Sparrow Project is a gift that will have a long lasting, positive impact on the lives of young people and your community. Sparrow Club is a significant way for something good and powerful to come from the challenges your child and family are facing at this time.

We estimate that over 30,000 young people have been involved in Sparrow Clubs over our first ten years. Our young volunteers have helped to raise approximately $2,000,000 in financial assistance for nearly 400 Sparrow kids. Last year alone, we distributed $525,000 to 130 sparrow families to assist them with medical expenses and family maintenance. Several of these sparrow projects have inspired teachers and students to start permanent Sparrow Clubs on school campuses. These clubs go onto adopt new sparrow kids from our non-profit organization each year.

Sparrow Clubs USA adds a very effective educational dimension to charity. A teacher described their Sparrow Club to parents in a school newsletter. She wrote,

"The benefits for the children at (our school) far outweigh the monetary benefit that the sparrow receives. The Club provides an outlet for kids to express compassion and to contribute their time, energy and talents in an extraordinarily worthwhile manner. It empowers and legitimizes kids helping kids. It creates a caring culture. It promotes the developmental assets that help kids to grow up as healthy, caring and responsible individuals and members of a community." 

Your role as a Sparrow parent is important. You can help the Sparrow club students who adopt your child feel a real sense of appreciation and heroism – something they are rarely accorded by the adult world. Let them know the positive impact they are making in your family. The more contact they have with you and your child, the more meaningful and memorable the experience will be to them. Your humble spirit of surprise and gratitude fans the flame of grace in the hearts of kids who want to help you.

Sparrow Clubs is open and inviting to all students, especially for kids who need sanctuary in their schools or safe environments in which to grow and mature. School needs to be a safe place of caring, learning and growing for all students – a place where they can let down their tough exteriors and learn the real toughness of tenderness. As Shakespeare once wrote, "No beast so fierce but knows some touch of pity."
